Inclement Weather Guidance for County Employees
In the event of inclement weather, which may delay or close County offices, employees should call a primary phone number or consult the County webpage for information. Three numbers are listed below as the amount of incoming lines are limited for each. So, if you hear a busy signal, its highly likely all incoming lines are used; please try your call again later. If the county is open, each employee must decide whether or not to travel based on their situation and making sure that their personal safety is a priority.
This message does not pertain to law enforcement officers, dispatchers, detention officers, water plant operators, and certain other persons. These safety critical positions are needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round.
With the threat of severe weather and possible power outages, we relay the following information to all employees:
- Employees should use their best judgment when deciding whether to travel to work during inclement weather. The County does not encourage employees to jeopardize their safety in any situation. Employees may use vacation time if they decide not to work during inclement weather when County offices remain open.
- Delays and closings will be published on the Montgomery County website, selected news channels (television and website), and on the Montgomery County phone system message. However, with possible power outages, some of these outlets may not be accessible. Details for these avenues are as follows:
- Montgomery County website at http://www.montgomerycountync.com/ – will be updated first. Typically, a scrolling message will be found at the top of the main home webpage.
- Telephone message recording by calling either 910-576-4221, 910-576-6531, or 910-572-3304
- via television or via website with Fox 8 News at http://myfox8.com/weather/closings-delays/ and with WFMY News at http://www.wfmynews2.com/closings/
- We remind employees to make contingencies for power outages at home. The weather situation could be protracted.
